What usually followed the magic word ENDEX was the issue of horror bags and the usual hurry up and wait.

But more than likely the white/green bus, with the usual on the bus, off the bus routine, or a mind that tail gate Bedford lorry or by means of German snail rail, ‘no sleeping in the luggage racks’ while you toured the whole of Germany, it was now exercise ‘sleep anywhere’ until you eventually arrived back to civilization. When you did arrive back in camp, it was hours of admin, cleaning vehicles, kit and weeks of shite off your weapons. But once the admin was done, it was 
time for real food, a proper compo dump, a long shower or bath and then bed (real sheets) for two 
days or so you thought.

Then you’re woken up at 0600 hrs the next morning by the guard 2IC. 
‘You out of bed, you’re supposed to be on F*****g guard.
